Several of you guys are trying to say something positive about the people that worked hard for the scene and are encouraging others to realize that they worked hard. But it can be done with a little less negitivity. I agree with a bunch of the points in this thread. But saying things like "just give up." Don't really achomplish anything, no matter the situation.

Now, lets deal with the comment about "forgetting where they came from." The trouble is that you and all of the other kids around here have any clue "where they came from" or me for that matter...What is going on here in this area now didnt exist wayyy back in the day....We showed up for hundereds of crappy bands that we hated. We didnt have to have "venue's." We made due with what we had because we realized that we didnt have a large enough crowd to support a full time place...We didnt talk smack about each other because we were all friends. This is how we networked, got shows, got places to sleep out of town, got meals...What goes on now is an abomination and has about as much to do with the "undergound/indi/DIY" spirit as Celine Dion....It is a different time I guess, but the comment about forgeting where we came from is offensive. - noah
i know this is prolly old by now but i just now bothered to see what people were saying after the whole music fet catastrophe occured and i must say that this particular statement noah made is exactly right. when we were kids here we supported anyone who picked up the mic or an instrument no matter what style it was because we were all in it together and we understood that. that same brotherhood is what is missing here now. i personally have promoted or helped with every show randy has put on since i was about fourteen years old except for the brief time i lived in new york and i did it not because i liked any of the bands or because randy is my best friend but because i believe in the magic of rock and roll and the opportunity for young kids to something worthwhile instead of pissing it away on harmful things. if everyone here were to just stop and forget each others bickering for a minute you would find just how alive and magnificent this town can be. i loved growing up here and it was because of the friends i made through the local music scene. - justin shinn
